Building inspection consists of construction and demolition of
residential and commercial properties inside the city limits.
Building officials and inspectors will review and approve
prospective building plans. After construction has begun, building
inspectors perform a number of inspections to insure that the
building meets local and state codes. A foundation and frame
inspection are performed on the structure; a water and yard line
inspection is performed on the plumbing; a gas inspection is
performed on the piping inside the structure; and mechanical and
electrical inspections are performed before a structure can be
issued a certificate of occupancy. All of these inspections can be
scheduled by calling the building inspection department at
979-337-7220. Building Inspection is also responsible for the
planning and zoning issues within the city. There is a scheduled
meeting for the Planning and Zoning Board as well as the
Board of
Adjustments.
