CITIZENS' POLICE ACADEMY

Better Understanding Through Education

The Citizen's Police Academy is one of the programs the Brenham Police Department uses to build a partnership between the officers and the community. Classes are held annually to education interested people about the inner workings of the department. Through the use of tours, lectures, demonstrations and "hands-on" experiences, CPA participants gain insight into the policies and procedures of the department. Citizens in the department can ride with police officers during normal patrol shifts, which gives participants a first hand look at what officers deal with on a daily basis. An example of topics covered include Patrol Procedures, Criminal Investigations, Hostage Negotiations, Narcotics Enforcement and D.W.I. Enforcement.

The class begins in January and is held on Thursday nights lasting approximately 13 weeks. It is held at the Brenham Police Station and is open, free of charge to anyone who lives in Washington County and is at least 17 years of age. The resulting partnership between citizens and officers furthers our efforts to improve the quality of life for everyone in our community. For more information about the CPA program, contact Cpl. Chris Jackson at 979-337-7324 or cjackson@ci.brenham.tx.us.

One of the benefits of the Citizen's Police Academy (CPAAA) is the strong partnership that is built between alumni of the program and the department. The Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in this community by supporting the department.
