Wastewater Treatment Plant

Camden White - Superintendent

The City of Brenham treatment facility is located at 2005 Old Chappell Hill Road, approximately 3,300 feet southeast of the intersection of FM 577/BlueBell Rd and State Highway 105.

The newly constructed Brenham Wastewater treatment facility is the principal element of an extensive capital improvement program designed to keep pace with the City's rapid growth. The multi-million dollar complex is the largest single project ever undertaken by the City of Brenham.

Over the past two years, many new improvements were added to the existing treatment facility. The new improvements at the City of Brenham Wastewater Treatment Plant will increase the treatment capacity of the facility from 2.55 million gallons per day to 3.55 million gallons per day. More importantly, the biological treatment capabilities of the new facility are being dramatically increase to allow the City to meet tougher treatment requirements that have been imposed by the state regulators. Since completion of the expansion, the biological treatment capacity of the facility is almost twice the capacity of the previous plant.

In addition the expansion to the plant is equipped with facilities that allow for enhanced treatment and handling of sludge. The facility is capable of generating Class A biosolids in a new Sludge Stabilization System. The Class A Sludge Stabilization System is capable of reducing the pathogens (i.e. disease causing organisms) in the biosolids to a negligible level and allow the biosolids to be more easily used as fertilizer or soil conditioner.

The new facility is designed to provide quality treatment of wastewater that is generated by the residents, businesses and industries located in Brenham and to ensure that the City of Brenham has the means to adequately protect the environment in Brenham and the Washington County in coming years.

Some other notable improvements at the new plant include:

  1. New Sludge de-watering equipment
  2. New site improvements including access roads, parking areas, site lighting and fencing.
  3. New operations building with laboratory, staff training are, restrooms and staff offices.
