Mayor & City Council

Mayor Milton Y. Tate, Jr.

Mayor Milton Tate has served as head of the city government since September 2003, to fill the vacancy created by the death of former Mayor Walter C. Schwartz.  Mayor Tate served as the City Attorney from 1982 to 1992.  Immediately prior to beginning his service as Mayor, Mr. Tate served a number of years as the Chairman of the Brenham Community Development Corporation.  Mayor Tate has resided in Brenham since 1965.

Mayor Pro Tem Gloria Greenwade-Nix
Position 6 At-Large

Gloria was raised in Brenham and attended Brenham schools and Blinn College.  She received her degree in Education from the University of Houston with minors in Math and Art. Gloria also has a Real Estate Broker's License.

Upon retiring from teaching in 1992, she was provided with the opportunity to renovate and give new direction to the pharmacy that was opened by her grandfather and later operated by her mother and brother. It is an example of old and new.

Gloria has been married to Edsel Nix since 1955. They have four sons, 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Gloria stays actively involved in Brenham. She is serving her second term on the Council in Position 6-At Large. She served as president of the Brenham Downtown Association and the Brenham Pilot Club. Gloria is a member of the First Baptist Church, serves on the board of the Brenham Heritage Museum and is a member of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce. She also serves on the Mayor's Downtown Improvement Committee, the Community Service Committee and the Investment Committee. Her family has been involved in Brenham Little League since its inception.

Councilman Danny Goss
Ward 4

Danny Goss was elected in May, 2005 to the City Council to represent Ward 4.  Danny is a local business man and volunteer fire fighter in the community.

Councilman Keith Herring
Ward 1

Keith has been a resident of Brenham since 1993, moving here from San Antonio. He is a native Texan, graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Austin, and attended the University of Texas. Keith served in the Marine Corps for 8 1/2 years.

Currently Keith is a substitute teacher for Brenham ISD, substituting on all campuses. He has also worked with the Brenham Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff's Department as a 911 Dispatcher. He has participated in the Citizens Police Academy in 1993, which sparked his interest in law enforcement communications.

Keith has been involved in youth sports prior to and since his arrival in Brenham. The Washington County Little League has been his main focus, as he served as the President of that organization for 4 years. One of the highlights of his term was the Summer of 2002, when Washington County had two teams advance to the World Series at the same time (Senior Boys and Big League Boys). Keith has also served on the Parks and Recreation Board for the City.

Keith and his wife Shirley were married in 1983. They have one son, Taylor, a senior at Brenham High School. The family has lived in the Scenic Estates subdivision since 1994.

Councilman Charlie Pyle
Position 5 - At Large

Pyle is a sixth-generation Texan, having had two of his great-great-great grandfathers as signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico at Washington-On-The-Brazos in March of 1836.

 After graduation from Temple High School in 1979, he attended Texas A&M University and Sam Houston State University where he received his bachelor of business administration in marketing.   Prior to moving to Brenham, Pyle was the sales manager for the Miller/Coors beer distributorship responsible for the College Station retail market.  He was previously employed by Sysco Food Services of Houston and Beaumont for 10 years.  Wright Distributing Co. of Bastrop recruited Pyle to become its branch manager of operations in Brenham following their acquisition of Seeker Distributing.

 Pyle has served as treasurer and president of the Downtown Brenham Alliance, formerly Brenham Downtown Association.  He also served a term on the Washington County Chamber of Commerce board of directors and served on its executive board as its treasurer.  He is a 2002 graduate of the chamber's Leadership program and has served on the search committee to select a new president for the Chamber / Economic Development Foundation.  Pyle has served on Main Street Brenham's Economic Restructuring committee and served two terms on the City of Brenham's Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) board and was the chairman of that committee. 

 Charlie volunteers his time coaching youth soccer and baseball and has taught pre-school Sunday school at Brenham's First Baptist Church.  Charlie and his wife, Traci, purchased Must Be Heaven Sandwich Shoppe in downtown Brenham in 1999.  His daughters, Perri and Lyndi-Paige, live in Sugar Land.  Charlie, Traci and twins, Jacob and Julianna, live in Scenic Estates subdivision. 

Councilman Weldon C. Williams, Jr.
Ward 2

Weldon C. Williams Jr. was elected councilman for Ward 2 on May 13, 2006.

Mr. Williams was born in Brenham and lived here until he graduated from Pickard High School. He attended Prairie View A&M University, earning a bachelor of science degree in physics, served in the army for two years, and attended Howard University in Washington, D.C., earning a master of science degree in physics.

Mr. Williams taught undergraduate physics courses for five years at Prairie View A&M University. He worked for Westinghouse for 34 years at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in Pittsburgh, PA as a nuclear analyst, a nuclear designer, and an editor and writer for the naval nuclear design manual.

Mr. Williams and his wife, Winifred, returned to Brenham in 1998.  Since his return, he has worked in the Brenham public schools as a substitute teacher and an English as a second language teacher.
